In the Veteran business owner community, there are a number of business owners that have not considered becoming a certified veteran business (SDVOSB or VOSB) by the VA.  The process can be bit lengthy and they require a lot of information about your business but, in the end, the effort could pay off!  The VA’s certification process is administered by the VA’s Center for Verification and Evaluation (CVE).

This program is important because the VA is one of the largest procurement entities in the government and awards approximately $3 Billion annually to veteran owned businesses.  It gives first priority to certified veteran businesses when it comes to awarding contracts.  In order to be in the running, though, you have to be certified so here is the link you need to start the process -

https://www.va.gov/osdbu/verification/

This is the hub of the VA’s Vets First Verification program.  There are a lot of very useful links on this page including what to expect during the verification process and resources to help you along the way.  There are even counseling services linked to help veteran business navigate the requirements.

Once verified, your business will be added to the verified SDVOSB and VOSB database maintained by the VA.  The database is called the VETBIZ-VIP database and it allows veteran business owners to post information about their businesses including their capability and capacity to perform to Federal requirements.  It also enables buyers to look for certified SDVOSB or VOSB businesses for their products and/or services.

It is a great program of which many veteran business owners are not aware.  If you haven’t checked it out, we highly suggest you take the time to do so.
